Healing Challahs connects real people — bakers, delivery volunteers, and people facing cancer — around a shared act of care. Doing that well means asking for some personal information, and sometimes sharing it between the people coordinating a delivery. This page explains what we collect, why, and who ever sees it.
What we collect
What we ask for depends on your role:
- Recipients: name, email, phone/text, delivery address, allergies or dietary restrictions (including kosher needs), delivery preference, and anything you choose to share about your situation.
- Givers: your contact info, and what you tell us about the person you're nominating — including any dietary or kosher needs they have.
- Bakers: name, contact info, ZIP/area, whether your kitchen keeps kosher, and a shipping or pickup address for your kit.
- Delivery volunteers: name, phone/text, coverage radius, mode of transport, and availability.
- Donors: name, contact info, and payment details (processed securely by our payment provider — we never see or store your card number).
Who we share it with
As little as possible, and only what's needed to get a challah from oven to doorstep:
- A recipient's contact info and delivery preference goes only to their matched baker, and to a delivery volunteer if one is involved.
- A baker's and delivery volunteer's contact info is shared with each other only when a handoff is needed — so they can coordinate directly.
- We never sell personal information, and we don't share it with anyone outside the specific people coordinating your delivery, except as required by law.
Your name on our impact page
Recipients choose whether their first name and last initial can be shown to donors on our impact page (e.g. "Sarah K. — San Francisco"). This is entirely optional — if you don't opt in, you're shown only as, for example, "A recipient in San Francisco." We never show more identifying information than that, to anyone.
Health-related information
Some of what you share with us — a cancer diagnosis, allergies, a note about your situation — is sensitive by nature. We collect only what helps your baker take care of you well, we don't use it for anything beyond fulfilling your request, and we don't share it beyond your matched baker and delivery volunteer.
How long we keep it

Your choices
- Pause or opt out of receiving challahs at any time, for any reason.
- Change your mind about donor visibility whenever you like.
- Ask us what information we have about you, or ask us to delete it.
Delivery volunteer safety note
Delivery volunteers are not currently background-checked. Deliveries are designed to stay low-contact — a porch drop-off or a brief, public handoff — and we encourage everyone to keep it that way.
