Healing Challahs

Healing Challahs

We bake so no one heals alone.

Challah is the braided bread of Shabbat, the Jewish day of rest. We send complete baking kits to volunteers, who bake a fresh challah for someone in cancer treatment or recovery and deliver it nearby — so healing happens with a community around it, not alone.

Every challah is baked by hand, by someone who cares.

  • A close-up of a challah braid crusted with poppy seeds
  • Several round challahs cooling on a wire rack

What's in a kit

Flour, sugar, yeast, oil, salt, parchment paper, a recipe card, a branded silicone egg-wash brush, a bag with a tie, two breast cancer pins, and a preprinted Mishebayrach (healing prayer) card for the baker to sign.

Why now

A diagnosis can be isolating, and treatment often means fewer visitors and fewer home-cooked meals. This project comes directly out of our founder's own treatment experience — she had baked challah for years, and was too unwell to during it. Baking again afterwards, for other people, is what started this.

Two ways to give

Individual baker → specific patient

A baker is matched with one person and bakes for them directly.

Community → community

A group holds regularly scheduled baking days for members of their own community.
